The Xstream Difference
CarrierTDD technology enables Xstream time-division duplexing (TDD) radio systems to deliver carrier-class system performance to enterprises of all types. For carriers -- who have traditionally relied on frequency-division duplexing (FDD) systems -- CarrierTDD delivers true carrier-class operation with the system efficiencies possible only with TDD technology.
CarrierTDD includes the following capabilities and features:
- Guaranteed throughput at any packet size over time for engineered links;
- Guaranteed throughput at any packet size over distance for engineered links;
- Low and constant latency for any packet size; and

The presence of potentially interfering signals is a fact of life in all radio communications, whether that communication is occurring over licensed spectrum or over license-exempt spectrum. In addition to installation techniques such as antenna selection and positioning that are used to mitigate the effects of interference, Xstream offers a range of features and capabilities that serve to minimize the likelihood that other RF signals will interfere with the reliable operation of a microwave path.
Native TDM & Native Ethernet
Every Xstream radio system is able to transport both TDM and Ethernet in their native modes.
Network designers often face a requirement to collocate multiple radio systems at a single site. Such a configuration is commonplace, for example, in situations where a “hub” location serves as the termination point for multiple microwave paths. Applications such as mobile backhaul, IP backhaul and video surveillance depend on such configurations in order to meet transmission requirements.
Throughput Symmetry Control
Applications such as video surveillance, storage area networking (SAN) and Studio to Transmitter (STL) broadcasting are characterized by highly asymmetric data traffic. For such applications, Xstream’s TDD radio systems are ideal because they optimize the available channel capacity to ensure the best performance.
